Just a short one about this rather fetching box set from those two ruffians that make up the sadly defunct Arab Strap. And yes, it really is a nice package sticking to everything Arab Strap were good at (and not so good at, Hey!Fever anybody?) right down to the artwork and general unashamed chaos that the songs contain. So what do you get then? The first two albums on heavyweight black wax, 2 LPs of outtakes/rarities and other bits from that time. CDs containing the singles up to 1998, live/Peel Sessions, mp3s/videos of the wax tracks. A tape of the band's first ever demo (the one that got them signed to Chemikal Underground), a poster sheet of entertaining newspaper cuttings and a certificate. Yup, the works.
Of course this is all very well and good, it's nothing new though, but I don't quite think that was the point of it. At the end of the day everything here (bar the Scenes Of A Sexual Nature and demo collections) are easily avaliable elsewhere, but hell it's a good package. The first album is still messy and lewd and remarkably fresh sounding, and Philophobia sounds as good as ever on wax. You can't compain. The other stuff, well it's all still Arab Strap. And that's that, I still miss them and love them... We need bands like Arab Strap. Collectors/fans/completists only this one though...
