So, apparently Piccadilly Records had something like 40 people queuing up before they opened the doors for this year's
'Record Store Day'. That's kinda mad, but in some ways comforting... people still love the physical product, and to be fair,
Piccadilly Records is an awesome place to go rummaging. Still, I do find it slightly sad that there has to be a dedicated day
of the year for these things. But then again, there is a day of the year for everything else these days (re: Fantomas -
Suspended Animation).
I of course slept in and got there about midday and decided to give my hard earned £6.99
over for the ATP Recordings sampler, mainly because they have had too much of my money this year so I figured a little more wouldn't hurt. The 10" (with download card) contains four tracks from the London based festival/promoters little label that seems to be doing quite nicely lately what with Fuck Buttons getting loved in all corners, and it's rather nice indeed. Not that there is much I can really say about any of the tracks on show here. In some ways I don't actually think they are tracks I would really listen to again... a 10"
sampler is, to all intents mildly pointless. But none the less it may help gain new fans, although personally I feel this is
really only one for ATP fans and people who feel they
should support something. What do I fall into? Probably both and with a grumbling wallet.
