Vic Chesnutt: 1964 - 2009!

Vic Chesnutt passed away yesterday afternoon following a brief coma due to an overdose of what is believed to be muscle relaxants in a suicide attempt.
Constellation Records have released the following statement on their website.
Surrounded by family and friends, Vic Chesnutt died in Athens Georgia this afternoon, Friday 25 December at 14:59.
In the few short years that we knew him personally, Vic transformed our sense of what true character, grace and determination are all about. Our grief is inexpressible and Vic’s absence unfathomable.
We will make more information available according to the wishes of Vic’s family and friends.

I have to admit to feeling pretty gutted by this. His last two albums were amongst the best he had ever commited to tape. Kristin Hersh has set up a page for donations which can be found here.
Not really the best news for a Christmas Day, rumors are flying about the internet that Vic Chesnutt has been taken seriously ill and is in a coma (or possibly dead) after a suicide attempt last Thursday. Constellation Records, his current label, have said in a statement that he is seriously ill, and news stories have been added and removed over the past few hours.
Either way, I hope the worst is not true. All of us here at Nothingatall Towers are sending our love and thoughts to his family, friends and to Vic himself.
